Welcome to “This Week in Top Shot” for the week of August 2nd. This is a new weekly recap series of all the news and updates within the world of Top Shot. Enjoy!
Average Sale Price
The current Series may be over, but that doesn’t mean Top Shot can’t add new features for us to play with. An average sale price has been added to Moment listings, appearing right in between the lowest ask and the top sale.
As you can see on this Furkan Korkmaz listing, the lowest ask is $6.00 but right under that we can see the average sale price and it’s almost a dollar more. This gives users a better idea of what their Moments are actually selling for, which should hopefully start to prevent us from undercutting one another to try and sell a Moment. This has been a very welcome addition to the site!
End of Series 2
Top Shot Series 2 has officially ended and we are now in the age of Series 2 Summer. While the Top Shot website has been pretty quiet, the Top Shot blog has been on fire, setting the stage for what’s to come next. This blog post details what the end of a Series looks like, and what that means for every Series 2 Moment and Set.
Series 2 Ends Friday. (And Why That Matters)

In short, every Series 2 Moment will be locked at its current mint count and no players can be added to any Series 2 sets.
Packrip Media x Top Shot Blog
To celebrate the end of Series 2, the Top Shot blog has enlisted writers from Packrip Media to send this Series off with a bang. They’re also sending Packrip Ewing: A Blog About NBA Top Shot to Las Vegas to experience the NBA Summer League first-hand.
Packrip Ewing: Guest Blog #1
The first guest blog of the week is Packrip Ewing.
You can read the full blog here, but here’s just a teaser of what’s in the full post:
At 8:16 PM, I opened my first NBA Top Shot pack. Series 2, Release 18.
I remember the absolute excitement of landing within the queue’s limits, and the euphoria of buying the pack and seeing it in my account, dancing that little dance, a playful, inviting wiggle back and forth. “Open me,” it whispered, and I obliged. From the moment I ripped my first pack, I was absolutely hooked.
“There’s music!?” I thought to myself as I swerved in my office chair, alone, as my friends jealously waited to find out what I pulled and my wife probably cursed me under her breath while hoping our daughter would stay asleep for more than three hours.
There’s no feeling in the world like opening your first pack, that’s something that sticks with you. And once you have your first, you start itching for the next one; it hooks you in and doesn’t let you go.
Chris Otis: Guest Blog #2
The journey’s just begun, let’s hear from fellow Packrip Media contributor Chris Otis.
Chris got his start like many of us with physical sports cards, and Top Shot has introduced him along with countless others to the world of digital collectibles. The full blog post can be found here.
Growing up, I was introduced to the world of physical sports collectibles, especially trading cards, by my dad. The hobby quickly developed into an insatiable desire to own the coolest cards of my favorite players, the limits of my collection bound only by my lower middle-class upbringing. As I grew up and went off to university, the hobby faded, but the seed that would grow into my future obsession with Top Shot had been firmly planted.
Flash forward to the end of February of this year, when I woke up one morning to find my phone flooded with notifications from The Athletic or Bleacher Report or something — I can’t remember which — about this crazy new platform called NBA Top Shot where users could buy and sell highlights, and apparently make quite a bit of money doing so.
It took me all of 2 paragraphs for me to be hooked on the idea, and I joined as soon as I could. My first purchase? Tacko Fall TS Debut #9898 — sans badge at that time — for well over lowest ask, because I thought it was close enough to his jersey number (#99) to be worth more.
We hate to say this Chris, but you won’t be retiring off of that Tacko Fall anytime soon.
Joe Swam: Guest Blog #3
Top Shot brings us together. We are all one big happy family, and in the case of Joe Swam, it allowed him to grow closer to his son. The full blog post can be read here.
During the season I found myself staying up late to watch West Coast games. I spent hours last week watching YouTube highlights trying to find the sleeper pick in the NBA Draft.
Top Shot has introduced me to new and interesting people. I’ve developed real friendships and connections with people I’ve never met in person. Some of them live on the other side of the world! After six years of avoiding Twitter like the plague, I now find myself checking it first thing when I wake up in the morning.
Most importantly, Top Shot has allowed me to connect more deeply with my son. His love of the game has been staring me in the face for years now. Top Shot allowed me to see it.
Is someone cutting onions in here?
