#10
This is the Office Hours Report, your Friday recap of the NBA Top Shot Office Hours.
Bolded text indicates my own thoughts and opinions.
Office Hours - July 23rd
Cool Cats
Cool Cats sets will have utility after Series 2 is over.
The team is still working on 9 Lives Lounge, physical perks and experiences. It’s a good time to be a Cool Cat.
Features
A big focus is polishing current systems and features, making sure the nbatopshot.com you see now is running as efficiently as possible.
Priority on making user experience more fun and interactive, build competition against community. One way to do this could be a friend system implemented on the site. Look at the collections of my friends, trade Moments with them, eliminate gifting restrictions for collectors who are your friends. Another idea could be based around the team affiliations. A challenge for all Sixers fans (just using my team as an example). Every collector on the site who claims Sixers affiliation has one week to come together and collect x number of Sixers Moments. If they hit that goal each Sixers fan is airdropped a Moment or a Base Set pack. Challenges could be done with each team and at the end of the week you could see which teams have the strongest or most passionate fanbases.
Trade Tickets are a priority and expected late summer. I’ll be the first one to say it is late summer. Once we get into August, Fall is right around the corner. These Trade Tickets are coming sooner than anticipated and we are very excited.
Miscellaneous
Common playoff drop next week. One of two drops before the end of Series 2.
There should be blogs either today or over the weekend with new info. What that info is, we don’t know.
Olympic Oopsie
‘Rule 40’ prohibits NBA Top Shot from using Olympic players or Moments. Last Office Hours the idea of players/Moments from the Olympics possible being introduced in the off-season but now it looks like that will not be the case. WNBA players are still a possibility however.
Phoenix Suns All-access
The Suns contest was the first of many ways Top Shot could connect with the community.
They will continue their mission of making NBA Top Shot the currency of NBA fandom. Every NBA stadium should have a Top Shot lounge or some tangible in-person reward or perk that can be earned or redeemed by Top Shot users.
Hoping to have more fan all-access events prior to next season.
Quavo Partnership
Quavo’s music will be featured on the Legendary pack opening.
Quavo is a big basketball fan so it was a perfect fit.
This is the first example of partnering with celebrities for a custom quest.
Roadmap
This will be the first full off-season for experimentation.
Series 2 will be closed out with a Legendary and a Common drop. Two packs left and then we are done with Series 2.
Off-season will be called ‘Series 2 Summer’. We were wrong in our theory that it would formally be called ‘Off-season’ but that is a good name for it. It’s not exactly Series 2 as there is no NBA season currently, but it’s not quite Series 3. Could we possibly see some Hardcourt information or gameplay during this Series 2 Summer?
Series 3 priority is establishing trust and confidence, balancing scarcity with accessibility. One way to establish a degree of trust and confidence with customers is to go into Series 3 without the beta tag, letting everyone know that this is a complete and finished product and you aren’t playing around anymore. Some people see the word beta and get scared away, they want a confident product they can trust and share with their friends and family.
Summer Plans
No off-season in NBA Top Shot. Even though multiple times they said there would be an off-season. Perhaps this means that there will never be a lull in the action and there will always be content coming out.
There will be quests, trivia and showcases.
There will be a Rare Run it Back pack with the years featured being earlier than 2013-14.
Top Shot Referees
Volunteer program is ending, the Top Shot staff has ramped up and some referees were brought onto the in-house team.
This concludes the tenth “Office Hours Report”.
The next edition of the “Here For The Moments Report” will be Wednesday, July 28th and the next “Office Hours Report” will come Friday, July 30th.
