This is the Office Hours Report, your Friday recap of the NBA Top Shot Office Hours.
Office Hours - July 16th
Current Focus
Challenges.
Balancing the number of moments per player. Before LeBron or Giannis get their fourth or fifth Moment, other players should be getting their first.
Long term distribution plans. This is something we hear all the term, it’s all about the long term.
Collector Score for future seasons. Collector Score is good as is but can definitely be reworked or adjusted. Every pack should give you a bonus to Collector Score, and how long you’ve had your account should be a factor as well.
The multi-tier pack drop was a big task for the Top Shot team and will give them flexibility on pack distribution in the future. The multi-tier drop was a success, but I believe that the Collector Scores necessary for each drop could be adjusted.
Economy
Volatility is important, Top Shot wants to be stable and not just in the short term. This is a long term affair, Top Shot Moments are something you’ll be giving your children years from now.
Focus is on what moments are worth in 5-10 years. A lot of people enter Top Shot thinking they could get rich quick and then were left holding Moments with no value. That’s not who Top Shot is built for at all, it has always been built for collectors.
Packs
Pack opening is big for customer retention and getting packs to users is the key.
75% of Moments from packs are still with the original owner.
90% are either with the original owner or the first buyer. These are really good statistics that show if a user isn’t holding a Moment, the person they are selling it to is.
Marketplace Trends
The skyrocket in February was unhealthy for Top Shot as a collectible. Things were crazy then, Moments were selling for absurd amounts and every pack could be flipped for ten times its cost.
The primary demand is still the demand for packs, and it is a very healthy demand. Nothing beats the feeling of ripping a pack and not knowing what’s going to be inside.
Won’t be able to buy an unlimited amount of packs but multiple packs in one day will eventually be possible. This could mean multiple pack drops/queues in one day or this could refer to the pack marketplace.
The secondary demand is the demand for buying on the market. If people can’t get their hands on a pack, they’re turning to the marketplace. People are hungry for Moments, people want to be a part of this ecosystem and will do whatever they have to in order to take part.
Trade Tickets
Trade tickets as we already know, are going to be an alternate currency within the Top Shot ecosystem. Burn a Moment to receive a ticket, how many tickets necessary for a pack is still unknown.
Tickets will not be a 1-1 trade, will take multiple tickets to get new packs. This is something we’ve speculated, and we’re thinking anywhere between 10-25 tickets would equal one pack.
This concludes the ninth “Office Hours Report”.
The next edition of the “Here For The Moments Report” will be Wednesday, July 21st and the next “Office Hours Report” will come Friday, July 23rd.
Stay tuned and thanks for reading, appreciate ya!
